SAS Airlines airline baggage rules

SAS Scandinavian Airlines offers passengers several baggage options, depending on the type of ticket purchased. By familiarising yourself with the rules in advance, you can avoid additional charges and inconvenience on the day of travel.

Carry-on baggage:

SAS allows all passengers to carry one small personal item free of charge, which must fit under the seat in front of you. Its maximum dimensions are 40 × 30 × 15 cm (this can be a handbag, rucksack or laptop bag).

Depending on your ticket type, one larger piece of hand luggage may also be permitted, to be placed in the overhead compartment. Its maximum dimensions are 55 × 40 × 23 cm, and its weight is up to 8 kg. If your ticket type does not include such baggage, larger hand luggage can be purchased as an extra.

Checked baggage:

The amount of checked-in luggage depends on the ticket class. Most SAS ‘Go Smart’, ‘Go Bonus’ and ‘Plus Smart’ tickets usually include one piece of checked-in luggage, which may weigh up to 23 kg. Higher-class tickets, such as ‘Plus Pro’ or ‘Business’, allow you to take two pieces of checked-in luggage, which may have a higher weight limit.
The total dimensions of checked-in luggage must not exceed 158 cm (the sum of length, width and height). Additional charges apply if weight or size limits are exceeded.

Additional requirements:

When travelling with children, it is usually possible to check in a pushchair or car seat free of charge. It is also recommended that you check the latest information on the SAS website before your journey, as baggage policies may be updated.

SAS – one of the largest and most important airlines in Northern Europe

SAS (Scandinavian Airlines) is one of the most important and longest-established airlines in Northern Europe. The company is renowned for its reliability, high safety standards, extensive route network and high quality of service.

Investments in a modern fleet, sustainability solutions and operational efficiency enable SAS not only to maintain a strong position in the Nordic countries, but also to compete successfully with major European and global airlines. For these reasons, SAS is an attractive choice for both business and leisure travel.

SAS is the national airline of the Nordic countries, established in 1946 through a collaboration between Denmark, Sweden and Norway. The company’s headquarters are in Stockholm, and its main hubs are at Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo airports. These airports form the backbone of SAS’s operations and ensure convenient connections between Northern Europe and the rest of the world.

Route network and services

SAS offers passengers a wide range of destinations, covering more than a hundred routes across Europe, North America and Asia. The company’s main objective is to connect the Scandinavian region with the world’s major cities and provide convenient connections between Europe and North America. Among the most popular destinations are London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, New York, Chicago and Toronto.
The airline offers several ticket types tailored to different passenger needs. The most economical fares are for those travelling with hand luggage, whilst standard economy class allows you to check in luggage and offers greater flexibility when planning your trip. Premium Economy offers greater comfort, faster airport procedures and more flexible ticket change conditions. Business Class ensures the highest level of service, including access to business lounges, high-quality catering and priority service.

A modern fleet

SAS stands out for its constantly updated and modern fleet. The company currently operates Airbus A320neo and A321LR aircraft for short- and medium-haul flights, and Airbus A330 and A350 aircraft for long-haul routes. These aircraft feature lower fuel consumption, quieter flight and a reduced environmental impact, thereby contributing to the development of more sustainable aviation.
Investments in next-generation aircraft enable SAS to optimise maintenance processes, reduce operating costs and ensure a reliable and comfortable flight experience.

Sustainability initiatives

SAS actively invests in sustainability programmes and strives to reduce its environmental impact. The airline is one of Europe’s leaders in the use of sustainable aviation fuels. In addition, the company is implementing digital solutions, optimising flight planning and reducing the use of paper documents. SAS’s long-term goal is to achieve net-zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2050.

Punctuality and service quality

SAS places great emphasis on flight punctuality and high-quality service. The airline adheres to Scandinavian service standards, characterised by clarity, functionality and professionalism. Passengers appreciate the reliable timetable, smooth transfer procedures and dependable service in both Economy and Business Class.

Expansion plans and vision for the future

The company is constantly expanding its route network, strengthening transatlantic connections and investing in new technologies. One of SAS’s key objectives is to increase flight frequencies from major Scandinavian airports and offer passengers even more convenient travel options. Investments in sustainable aviation, digitalisation and service quality enable SAS to maintain its leading position in Northern Europe and strengthen its role in the international aviation market.
